My phone (Iphone 7) keeps telling me I have no service when I should have it, My brother (Iphone 6s) still has working data. It says an update is required to use cellular but when I looked how to do that it didn’t work, I was on wifi with a good connection at the time and nothing has worked.

You should be able to do any software update via Wi-Fi as that is the preferred method. For an iPhone, you can just go to Settings > General > Software Update.
