Cricket LOCKED my UNLOCKED phone

Userlevel 1

Cricket has basically HIJACKED TWO iphones on our plan with them and REFUSE to UNLOCK them!! I have been with Cricket for over a year and the phone was purchased from Best Buy as UNLOCKED!! When I went to another provider, they claim to have unlocked my phones, but that has yet to happen! I have gone 3 days without a phone and had to purchase a new one because Cricket REFUSES to release my phone that they never had the authority to lock! My daughter is now stuck and although she received a message that her phone has been unlocked, it has not! This should be a class action lawsuit!! How does Cricket get away with this????

The second is a type that will automatically lock to the first sim inserted. This way a single model iPhone is not carrier locked when sold, but locks when activated on a carrier.

So the phone is likely locked to cricket, but it’s not in crickets database since they didn’t sell it, and it technically wasn’t cricket who locked it. You’ll probably have to sort it out with Apple if you have proof you bought an unlocked model

Cricket locked my unlocked iphone xs max and want unlock it. I didn’t purchase this phone through them and i’m not able to switch my service to verizon. I have called and is getting the run around about a phone that they didn’t have the right to lock in the beginning. Please do not use cricket service.

This whole phone-locked-to-carrier business needs to be revisited by the FCC.
Users are obligated by contracts to fulfill those terms.  There is absolutely no necessity of physically locking an easily traceable phone to a carrier.  It just creates a big headache for users and for the carriers who constantly have to deal with lock/unlock issues.  It’s time to entirely end the practice of locking phones to carriers.

I recently went to the United States with the UK military and purchased one of your pay as you go SIMs so I could use my unlocked phone!

Now that I’m back in the UK my phone refuses to pick up my carrier network and is useless. My o2 carrier don’t know what the problem is but I’ve found a number of posts from people experiencing the same issue. I need to get my phone unlocked now!

How do I resolve this away from the States?

Sounds like its probably an ATT iphone since those would work on Cricket without issue. Probably was never unlocked properly to begin with which is why it only works on ATT and Cricket

  1. The device you want to unlock has been active for at least six months of paid service on that device.
  2. The device is designed for use on and is locked to Cricket's network.
  3. The device has not been reported lost or stolen.
  4. The device is not associated with a fraudulent account.

Check Settings

One way of checking is by going into the Settings app and looking at your mobile data settings.

Step 1. Launch the “Settings” app and tap on “Mobile Data” then on “Mobile Data Options”.

Step 2. Look for the setting called “Mobile Data Network”.

If you see this setting then this typically means a carrier lock is active and you’ll need to proceed with unlocking techniques.

Switch SIM Cards

If you want to double-check and make sure a carrier lock is active, try switching your SIM card. This will only take a few minutes:

Step 1. Remove your Cricket SIM card.

Step 2. Insert the SIM card from any other carrier.

If, after doing this, the phone connects to the carrier and you can make phone calls and send texts, there is no active carrier lock. However, if it doesn’t connect, then there is a lock. KrogerFeedback survey

Cricket unlock policies are very unfair. I bought a new brand phone and never activated the contract. So, I cannot unlock the device trough any unlock company. Cricket doesn't provide the unlock code nor purchase it!!!

Looks like your IMEI was reported stolen to Verizon, after the phone was sold to you,or the seller never paid their bill so Verizon blocked the device IMEI. greatpeople.me

Cricket did the same to me. I ported my lines to Verizon and only my iPhone was locked by cricket.
I checked on this website
https://www.cellunlocker.net/iPhone-Network-Lock-Check
and in fact it showed lock. I went on the ATT website
https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/
Fill out form and put number you had with cricket. They will send you an email and you need to confirm it. They email you back and the decision they make can take up to 72 hrs. With in 10 mins I got another email from ATT that my iPhone was unlocked. I checked it again in the 1st website I mentioned n it showed unlocked. I tried Verizon sim and this time it was supported. Hope it works for others

Experiencing same issue right now with 2 iPhones — Both Verizon Wireless; purchased and Paid for in Full, prior to coming to Cricket.

Dealing with the same issue.  Infuriating.

Your directions are extremely vague as to who to reach out to on FB! I did not see any type of link to a "Support Team" so I messaged whoever it is that may be on the other end. Do you have any other solutions, or will you just continue to run me in circles? Perhaps an actual phone number would be more helpful and a name of someone I can speak to!
