Passpoint-WIFI Issue

I work in the Technology division for a school district. The district just rolled out Passpoint-WIFI in all of our buildings. They also moved our division-issued iPhones from Verizon to T-Mobile, and pushed down a policy that connects them to Passpoint. They seem to work fine.

The issue I’m having is that I have a personal iPhone XR (iOS 17.1) on Cricket Wireless that works so-so on Passpoint. Specifically, the iPhone email app will not refresh and get updates. It just spins. I use Gmail as my email provider.

Some other apps that I have installed that use Internet access, such as Grammarly also time out.

I have Googled the crap out of this and have found nothing that helps.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure Passpoint is enabled on your iPhone. Go to Settings > WiFi and look for the Passpoint profile - it needs to say "Connected" next to it.

Try forgetting the Passpoint network completely and reconnecting. Go to Settings > WiFi > next to Passpoint > Forget This Network. Then go through the authentication process again.

Check that your Cricket Wireless plan includes sufficient data to use Passpoint. Some apps may be exceeding the daily limits.

As a test, turn off WiFi calling/cellular data switching on your iPhone temporarily. See if app work over just WiFi or just cellular data. This can help identify a carrier vs WiFi issue.

Check for any iOS updates on your iPhone XR and install if available. Passpoint bugs have been fixed in newer iOS versions sometimes.

See if a VPN app like Hotspot Shield causes any issues. A VPN over Passpoint occasionally helps app connectivity.
