Unaware of 6 month lock policy, please help

A few days ago I transferred my service to ATT.   I tried to use my cricket iphone 11 and it said it was locked because i haven't had 6 paid months of service.  Well, my cricket account is closed, i only had 5 months of service, and now i have ATT and a paid off $1200 phone i cant use over one month of service.   I wasn't made aware of the unlock policy initially, but i understand it.  Since i have cancelled my account, with 5 paid months, can i please just pay you for the remaining month of service for an unlock code?

Some iphones lock to the first network they are on.

I do not use iphones so google it.
