Data Only: Cannot receive texts

I have a data only plan. My SIM card is in a security camera that is mounted 30’ up in the air on a telephone pole. I cannot access it, at least not without renting equipment to get me up there again.

I am not able to create an account on Cricket or load the Cricket App since all requests for a password are texted to my device, which is inaccessible. Therefore, I cannot manage my bill or do anything else.

It seems that Cricket support cannot add a new phone number which I can actually get messages on, nor do they send emails or even paper mail. How am I to manage my account if I cannot access it via the website or app?

Cricket support has said that I need to pull my SIM card and put it into another Cricket phone to receive the messages to create my account. Frankly, if I have to rent a lift to pull my SIM card, I will be doing so to replace their data plan with someone else’s. Also, I don’t have another Cricket device and live far away from any Cricket stores. So, if I need to get up there, this situation makes finding another carrier very appealing.

This situation is somewhat ridiculous and incredibly brittle at the Cricket end. A data only cellular plan does not necessarily mean that one can receive messages. Their position shows a remarkable  misunderstanding of the reality of modern device based technology.

Does anyone know what to do? Have you had a similar issue?

James,

oh believe me, I have been in touch with tier 1 support and spoke to several managers. I spent 4 hours on the phone with support yesterday. There is NEVER a reason for me to call them again.

Each time I was told that I had to take my SIM card out of the device and put it into a different Cricket device so that I can just get a password sent to me.

I am a software developer. I have never heard of such a constricted application notification model. My mind was blown by this gaping chasm in the Cricket notion of service. The data only device market may not be your line of business.

However, if u want to send me a temporary pwd so that I can actually download and use the app on my iPhone, I would use it. I am just not wasting my time with “support” anytime soon.  :)
