I have a data only plan. My SIM card is in a security camera that is mounted 30’ up in the air on a telephone pole. I cannot access it, at least not without renting equipment to get me up there again.
I am not able to create an account on Cricket or load the Cricket App since all requests for a password are texted to my device, which is inaccessible. Therefore, I cannot manage my bill or do anything else.
It seems that Cricket support cannot add a new phone number which I can actually get messages on, nor do they send emails or even paper mail. How am I to manage my account if I cannot access it via the website or app?
Cricket support has said that I need to pull my SIM card and put it into another Cricket phone to receive the messages to create my account. Frankly, if I have to rent a lift to pull my SIM card, I will be doing so to replace their data plan with someone else’s. Also, I don’t have another Cricket device and live far away from any Cricket stores. So, if I need to get up there, this situation makes finding another carrier very appealing.
This situation is somewhat ridiculous and incredibly brittle at the Cricket end. A data only cellular plan does not necessarily mean that one can receive messages. Their position shows a remarkable misunderstanding of the reality of modern device based technology.
Does anyone know what to do? Have you had a similar issue?
