Sim Swap - Has to be an inside job...

So yesterday I woke up to a text message from Cricket saying “Changes were made to youf Cricket account.” So I logged in but it didn’t say what changes, and there was nothing looking off. I figured it was a mistake.

Then this morning, I woke up to emails from my bank saying that my password was changed, and a Zelle recipient was added, and they attempted to drain my bank account. Thankfully my bank flagged it and didn’t allow the transaction through. I called the bank and realized I had no phone service. This person accessed my Cricket account, sim swapped my number, and used it to access my bank account.

I called the bank on my husband’s phone, and as I was on the line, an alert from Google popped up on my phone asking if it was me trying to log in. I definitely wasn’t.

So I called Cricket and they told me it was a sim swap. But other than suspending the phone number, they won’t do ANYTHING. They insist that it has to be my fault because I must not have protected my information well enough, because someone had to have known my account pin and security questions to make any changes. Well the only people with access to that info (other than my husband and I) are CRICKET EMPLOYEES.

We went and got service from a different carrier and closed the Cricket account. And Cricket can’t even be bothered to refund my last bill payment that was a prepayment for this month (that I no longer have service for).

I have called multiple times to try and get answers as to how this happened, and who accessed my account. The last person I talked to finally told me what notes were on the account. Said someone had called in on 4/7/23 asking how to port out my number. And then apparently yesterday they had logged into my cricket account and changed my security questions. This is an INSIDE JOB and supervisors are hanging up on me. This is outrageous. I need answers!

Hey @violated, this happened to my mom as well. It wasn’t a Cricket employee, it was a fraudster. Apparently, it’s an industry-wide trend. Hackers are getting smarter, unfortunately. Reach out to them on Facebook Messenger, or Twitter DM. They’re really helpful! Sorry this happened to you!

I’ve already left Cricket and closed my account. Will they still be able to look into it?
