Hi all! I have an unlocked OnePlus 5 with a Cricket SIM. It's not a new phone, but it works perfectly and is 4G LTE compatible. I got a text this morning from Cricket saying that 3G support will be ending in February 2022 (fine, cool) and that my device will no longer be supported (what?)
I tried calling Cricket to ask why I'd be getting a text that doesn't seem relevant, but the guy palmed me off talking about “changes to the network” without actually explaining why shutting down 3G means a 4G phone would no longer be compatible. He insisted it's because it's unlocked, but then said any iPhone from 6S onward, unlocked or on Cricket, would work fine. Clear as mud, right?
So I wanted to ask here if anyone can shed any light on what this actually means, or if it's a mistake on their end. If it isn't, I'll probably just switch network rather than pay for a new phone - Cricket isn't the only budget carrier anymore!
