Cannot make or receive calls, text and internet work fine

Have not been able to make or receive calls all day.  I can text and use the internet (while not connected to wifi).  4 out of 5 bars and LTE working fine.  When I try to make a call it tells me “Couldn’t Connect” next to a red phone icon.  When someone tries to call me, it goes straight to voicemail.  My son is on my same account, his service is working as normal.

I have reseated the sim card, I have restarted the phone, etc.  All to no avail.  

This makes me think it is not a sim card issue since I can access text and internet from the Cricket network.  So what could be the problem?

Yes, new update was installed on Thursday.  Everything SEEMED to work fine after that and reboot, but then this morning received an email asking me to turn my phone on.  It was (I was reading the email on my phone), but when I tried to call voicemail….”couldn’t connect”.  so I restarted in safe mode, then restarted again and could make calls.
