Question

sending text messages failed

I have been with Cricket for several years. I've been using a Samsung Galaxy S8 and never had a problem. All of a sudden last week my text messages stopped sending to people 50% of the time (I can receive text messages just fine.) When I send a text, half of the texts I send will have a blue spinning circle next to them and then an error message pops up that says "message failed" and my phone asks me to review the message and try again. Sometimes when I click "retry" it will send. Sometimes it won't. It happens no matter if I'm on wifi or not, and I for sure have full service. I've tried making sure my phone's SMSC number hasn't been changed or deleted. It hasn't. I refreshed it just in case. I've tried clearing the messaging cashe. Turning airplane mode on then off. Resetting my phone. Nothing has fixed the issue.

What isn't making sense to me is the fact that some messages are sending and some aren't. I can send a message that says "test" to the same number three times and the first will work and the next two won't. And once a message has failed, no messages will send until I turn airplane mode on then off. But even then, it will only send 1 of the unsent messages at a time. I have to do this EVERY message I want to send.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

My partner has a Galaxy note 8 and is on the same plan with me and has had zero of these issues.

Hi @jesslipps23 ! We’re sorry to hear you are having issues with SMS. We would like to look into this issue further for you. Please reach out to our support team on Facebook (m.me/cricketwireless) or Twitter (@cricketsupport) with the details of your issue.

My wife and I are both having the same problem.  It has been happening for the last few months and has been getting worse. I use a Samsung A10 and my wife has a Nokia. I really don’t get why it can’t be handled here though instead of twitter (we don’t use it) and facebook (I don’t go on very often).  I figure this is a forum and would be a good place to figure the issue out. We didn’t have problems before this but it is getting really bad as of late. It’s a 50/50 chance a message will go out at best right now.

Hey Brucerick I'm the original poster on this topic. So originally Cricket's technical team reached out and suggested we change out my sim card. I went thru that process and for a week everything was working perfectly. However I'm back to the same exact issue again. Still can't send text messages about half the time. The only way I can get them thru is turning airplane mode on, then off, and then resending the original message. So, if anyone else knows that the heck is going on, please enlighten me. I'm about fed up.

Yeah, we are in the same boat. My wife has been wanting to leave cricket and I’ve been holding on for a while but this latest thing has really brought me to a breaking point.  Calls are only working about 75% of the time too, and I can’t have that happen when I have a business meeting.  Thanks for the reply.

Damm even I am having a similar kind of issue, I have searched all over the internet and even have posted on number of threads on different forum, no solution seems to work. I am really frustrated, can anyone of you here help me resolve this issue, I am very much tired now.

An often overlooked problem is an incorrectly set SMSC number. ... If you have an incorrectly set SMSC, you will still receive text messages because the other person's SMSC is forwarding the messages directly to your SIM number. But your text messages fail to send because your texts are not reaching your carrier's SMSC.

Some common reasons why SMS messages may be failing to send: The destination handset is unreachable. The destination phone number does not support Text. The SMS message exceeds the 160 character limit.

An often overlooked problem is an incorrectly set SMSC number. The SMSC is responsible for sending SMS messages from your device. When you send an SMS message, it gets forwarded to the SMSC, which then sends it to the destination. Your SIM carrier is responsible for maintaining the SMSC network.

If you have an incorrectly set SMSC, you will still receive text messages because the other person’s SMSC is forwarding the messages directly to your SIM number. This method works for most – it is the most commonly recommended method by all experts. Personally, it did not work for me. When trying to add my carrier’s SMSC number to the appropriate field, the menu would give a “failed” error. This was whether or not I converted the SMSC to PDU. So if this method also fails for you, try the next one.

Many of us like to download alternative texting apps than the stock one that comes with our devices. Apps like Textra, Chomp, EvolveSMS, and even the SMS feature in Facebook Messenger seem like fancier alternatives to the stock app.

If you’re a root user who likes to debloat your phone, you probably also disabled the default SMS app. The funny thing is, the default SMS app usually has an option for setting the SMSC number, whereas most third-party SMS apps do not. This is typical because the default SMS app is a /system app with privileges to modify the SMSC, whereas the third-party apps are not.

check your network setting

Like bokeb said, check your network setting.

First, it is possible that your wireless network dropped.  I never had a problem before myself.  If you see that is not connected, connect your wireless network.  For me, that’s good enough.  Anyway, make sure to restart your system after you make changes, whatever it is.  After restarting, I resent messages already sent, and it worked.  Hope that helps even a little bit.
