If you have purchased a Cricket s20FE, do not update to Baseband G781USQU3DUCB, their latest OTA update. Your device will begin disabling the backlighting on your screen and begin to flicker when under bright areas (outside) when you have adaptive brightness, or anything higher than 80% brightness enabled outside.

My temporary solution is to disable adaptive brightness and keep it at 60-70%, and hopefully Cricket will release the G781USQU3DUD4 (April 20) OTA update.

I have tested this on 3 devices so far, and even flashed this firmware on an unlocked s20FE.

On a related note, I have noticed Cricket's baseband versions are identical to At&T's. So I am not sure why they are 3 versions behind from At&t, or if you can flash to their firmware.

Is it possible to pop an ATT sim inside the device to get the OTA update?

OTA Update for July has been released yesterday.

Not sure if they actually listened or was intentionally being 3 months behind on their OTA updates. But the latest update fixes the issue.

How did you get the update? I bought the phone several days ago, but the newest Baseband is still G781USQU3DUCB. There is no newer update available

I was able to install it via Settings back in July. Make sure you’re on a wi-fi connection and not LTE otherwise it will not find the baseband update.

But before when the baseband  wasn’t available, I had to go through an unlock service to temporarily unlock my cricket device, pop an at&t sim card, and do the ota update through it. Are you having the same issues?

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, I have the same issue. However, when buying the phone, Cricket says that the phone can be unlocked after 6 months. I am not sure if they can temporarily unlock the phone and let me try the update? Did you do the ota update yourself?

Yes, Cricket eventually offered the ota update in late July when I owned the device at the time, it’s strange if they did remove the ota update as they were already 3 months behind before the July security update.

Before July though, my wife couldn’t handle the issue with her s20fe and was impatient on waiting for the ota update, so I resorted to using a third party unlock service via ebay for around 30 dollars. What the third party unlockers did was remote into my pc, use their software to either flash her cricket firmware to an unlocked version. From there we did the ota update by putting in a blank at&t sim card, then put her old cricket sim back in.

Thank you so much for the information! I scheduled a service visit and will see if they can do something to the software.

FYI, today I received a bunch of updates (5 or 6 maybe?) through OTA, and the display problem has been solved.

I encountered a similar problem some time ago and seem to have found the answer on some site. I read technology essay and it was right here. I don't know if it will help in finding the answer, but I found a lot for myself.
