Not able to activate "Call Waiting" on Unlimited Plan

When trying to activate a "Call Waiting" feature, I get the following error message "Unexpected response from network".
 
Tried different Android phones as well as a dumb-phone, so the problem is definitely not with my phone and/or its settings.
The problem  has to do with the network and its settings on the provider side.
 
Contacted the Cricket Support, but without success.
 
Also, tried to manually query and activate as follows:
status query *#43# <DIAL>
Response: "Call waiting: Service has been disabled"
 
to activate: *43# <DIAL>
Response: "Connection problem or invalid MMI code"
