Motorola One 5G Ace compatibility

Badge +1

Has anyone had success getting 5G service on an unlocked Motorola One 5G Ace?

I chatted with Cricket Wireless tech support who confirmed that I have 5G service in my area and my phone is compatibile.   Then we went through APN setting changes with no success.   The service tech told me to call Motorola because it appeared that my phone doesn't have a toggle setting.

I then called Motorola and their tech support told me my phone will automatically switch to 5G when the signal strength is good.

Any help the community has would be greatly appreciated .

Hey @Scot544, have you double checked your network settings just to be sure? If not, it’s worth a try: go to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Network >  Preferred network type > 4G. Also, check to make sure your software is up to date. If that doesn’t work, Cricket will suggest that you get a new SIM card. Some have had success w/ a SIM swap on other Motorola models. Good luck!😎

Thanks.  Went through all that with the Cricket wireless technician before she told me to call Motorola.  This phone doesn’t have an option to switch the preferred network type.  Called Motorola, they said it switches automatically so I should call Cricket.

We have 2 of these phones in the household and neither receives 5G service, so probably not a SIM card issue.

I had 5G service on it when I was with another carrier that uses a different network.  I suspect is it a Cricket issue.

@Scot544 Misery loves company, and I’m glad to see I’m not the only one with this issue - no 5G service on the Motorola One 5G Ace. 5G was the reason I purchased this particular phone and moved from my previous carrier who was disingenuous about their 5G service. What you received, @Scot544, from both Cricket and Motorola is incomplete information. According to the Motorola website, where you can check phone compatibility with carrier, the 5G Ace supports Cricket 4G and VoLTE with “5G Sub 6 support to be added later.” I’ve been waiting since January for this support to be added. It’s not surprising that techs at both Cricket and Motorola wouldn’t know this because this type of information is not included in their tech support canned scripts that they don’t deviate from. What is surprising, though, is that 5G is available on this phone through AT&T, according to Motorola, but not Cricket, which is a subsidiary of AT&T and uses the AT&T network. I’ve even seen this phone for sale in the AT&T store. The real question, then, is for Cricket, and hopefully someone who has this knowledge at Cricket will see this post: What is the timeline for 5G Sub 6 support to be added so that @Scot544 and I can take full advantage of our phones?

Are you two able to use hotspot with the ace?

@gtFlue I have no idea. I have no reason at this time to use my phone as a hotspot. I’m still waiting for @CricketSupport to let us know when 5G support will be coming to the Ace.

@Scot544, from what I can tell AT&T / Cricket since they are one in the same do-not allow 5G for devices that are not Cricket / AT&T branded. My One Plus 8T + 5G, has the same problem no 5G on Cricket / No Wifi Calling / No Hotspot, even though it supports all of those things.

Dial *#*#4636#*#* then  tap phone information and then scroll down until you see the preferred network settings (should see a screen like the one I attached)

I have a Samsung galaxy note 20 ultra 5g (sm-n986u) from at&t, and switched to cricket and still struggle to get 5g signal and my wife has the Samsung Galaxy fold3 (again bought when we had at&t and switched to cricket when we got tired of the ridiculous high cost of att phone bill) and she has had 5g signal since day 1.

@riku1408, that phone info screen you mentioned above, is there anyway to edit it? For example it doesn't allow video calls on my phone or have it set for 5g. Why? I'd like to be able to utilize all that my phone is capable of. Is why I just bought it. Moto edge+ 2022.
